The Department of Plant Protection, established in 2013 within the Faculty of Agriculture, consists of Phytopathology and Entomology departments. The Plant Protection Department aims to be one of the top plant protection departments in Türkiye through its research and student-focused educational programs; to support science, technology, and social benefit through qualified, sustainable research that meets industry standards; to train agricultural engineers with a focus on plant protection who are dedicated to core values, mindful of the environment, human health, and food safety; capable of identifying and taking initiative in problem solving; and receptive to personal, professional, and cultural growth.
The Plant Protection Department conducts research and development (R&D) in addition to education and training programs. Non-chemical alternatives to control pests, diseases, and weeds that pose a threat to cultivated plants are developed, and scientifically based solutions to industry needs that are presented to relevant industry stakeholders and the scientific community are provided contributing to the socioeconomic structure of the nation and the region is the goal.
The Department of Plant Protection houses an insectarium with six automated climate chambers, a student microscope laboratory, a glass greenhouse, a plastic greenhouse, and laboratories for entomology, virology, mycology, and herbology that enable students to practically diagnose diseases, pests, and weeds that are problematic in agricultural production.
